Speaking Up about Home Staging

head_left_image

The difference between 211 degrees and boiling.

This blog is inspired by a speech made at the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors Plugged-in Tech Fair and Trade Show.  The speaker was nationally renowned speaker, Gee Dunsten.  He spoke of the difference betwen being good and being great.  The analogy he used was that of boiling water...... You see, the difference between hot water (at 211 degrees) and boiling water is only 1 degree.

This single degree change can mean the difference between water sitting and enough power to begin to create steam.  Steam is an energy source strong enough to power a locomotive.

steam locomotive

Another one of my favorite speakers, Anthony Robbins, speaks of CANI - Constant And Neverending Improvement.  The concept is simple.  Everyday you make tiny changes - simple changes.  These simple changes add up and create tremendous results - much like the differnce between hot & boiling water.

When you are working your business, whether real estate, staging, mortgage, appraisal, ANY BUSINESS - or even your personal life - it is important to think about the concept of CANI and a simple degree change.  Even 2 steps forward and 1 step back = 1 step forward!

Thank you Gee Dunsten for reminding us that it is all in that small extension that makes great turn into exceptional!

Hello Melissa...thank you for the reminder!!  One of my hobbies is cooking and I love to make Chocolate Almond Fudge.  The candy mixture must heat to a certain specific degree in order to solidify.  That one degree difference is profound...just like your speaker's similar analogy.   One degree can make the difference between beautiful solid fudge candy or slightly thickened fudge sauce!!  : )  I never thought about it as applied to ourselves personally!! What a great description to apply to our work and Life in general! It really is true regarding the change in results when we give that extra DEGREE of Energy!!  Thanks for this thought!  I love inspirational ideas like this!  Regards-Kathleen G

Melissa- Very enlightening! Sometimes, I am amazed at how the smallest effort can produce the most incredible results! Not everything we do has to be climbing Everest! Sometimes, we can get what we want, just reaching the top of a staircase! SIDE NOTE: Here in Denver, water boils at 200 degrees...really makes it tough to cook perfect pasta! ;)

Melissa,

Your graphics really help get your point across.  It's such a simple concept, but so powerful, isn't it?  I like the challenge of thinking of just one thing that I will improve on today.  Who can't do that?  The trouble is just narrowing it down to one...

Ann - my pleasure!  I love to be reminded of these things as well.

Elaine - I could see that making cooking interesting.... hmmmm.  Something to think about!

Michael - Thanks for reading!  You are most welcome.

Kathy - exactly!

Lynn - He had similar slides at his presentation.  I thought they were effective so I found some online as well.

I love reading posts like this.  And your sentence "Even 2 steps forward and 1 step back = 1 step forward!" is awesome because it's easy to become disheartened with little setbacks until you look at what was still achieved.  I love it!  Thanks for sharing Melissa.

Did you have Tony Robbins in person?  I hear that he doesn't appear in person anymore because his new wife won't let him travel.  Can that be true?

Great post, btw.

Abby - I have to try to remember that myself when I am frustrated over something.  It really does help though!

Juliet - I don't think that is true because I was planning on going with my husband to a UPW event, but there are fewer in person locations now.... he does a lot of video conferencing now (like in theaters & auditoriums).  I went to a UPW a few years back - changed my life.  I did the firewalk and am really proud of myself for it.  Before that event I was never able to stand up for myself, I was timid about everything and let others tell me what to do... not anymore baby!  I'm lovin' life and have a backbone - and know how to use it!

Charity - I haven't read the book yet, but will definately have to pick it up!  I love this type of book.  Tony Robbins' Unleash the Power Within book was great as well...

Kathy - You are welcome!  Thanks for reading.

Michelle - I am sure, knowing you, that you are at a standing boil consistently.... but the water (and steam) cn always get hotter.  I'll be right there with you working on consistent and neverending improvements!
