I posted last night a querry on how to comment on posts (specifically before & after posts) where the stager really could have used some tweeking... the old addage, "you don't know what you don't know" thoughts apply. All 8 comments this morning advised it would be good to have a 'critique' group where we could share our work and have other experts tell us what they might have done differently. This way we can educate each other & help those who may not be completely comfortable with their skill level.
I thought if I was going to start this group it would need to be about more than just critiquing. I am a huge fan of Steven Covey and always think of him talking about Sharpening your sword.... so that's what I've created. The group will be specifically for educating yourself & others. This is not an advsertising forum for for posts meant to educate the general population or agents. It is about educating ourselves and honing our skills in this industry - something you may know I am passionate about!
All comments must be done in a CONSTRUCTIVE way - no bashing or name calling will be permitted! If I find you've done this, I will call you out on it. I'm not good with politically correct and I don't find it helpful to beat around the bush... so call it like you see it, but be kind & with good intentions!
Here's the new group! http://activerain.com/groups/SharpenYourSword

Melissa, this is the best idea, I'm so glad you created the group.
This will prove to be an incredible learning tool!
Melissa -
Thanks for creating this group. This will be really helpful, now I'm really going to be addicted to AR. Must put a time limit on myself!
Yeah! We are up to 19 members and 5 posts! My What's right & wrong... Which do you prefer & why post is an example of the learning and growing we can do together.... isn't everyone having fun hearing the critiques? I know I think it is a hoot.....
I can't wait to tell everyone which rooms they are!
This is a wonderful idea! Thanks, Melissa for taking the time to open our creative minds!

Susan - Of course you are welcome! Everyone is welcome assuming they follow the guidelines already specified.
As far as training courses. There are no top-of-the-league courses. There are many around the country and my best advice is to research this carefully. Find out what instructor and program work for YOU. All courses are different and there is no governing body to say that one course is OK or not OK. Most courses are originated from the instructors themselves without any review. This doesn't mean they are bad, just understand that there is no regulation in this industry. Good luck!
Thanks Melissa, I will do my homework and put certification as a goal for 2008!
Good idea- I'm in.

I'm in! Thank you for putting group together. Education is always great.
The group is up to 38! How exciting! Now we need more posts on education and critique. I'll have to find some of my old work and throw it out there... I know I definately look at things I used to do and cringe at least a little.... not really BAD, just it is much better now...
That sometimes goes to show you just don't know what you don't know!
