Picnik Tutorial To Customize Your Active Rain Or Outside Blog Header

Donna - Thank you for sharing this fantastic information!!  I'm always sharing links to AR and it's great to give new members information on how to customize their blogs.

Today I finally got around to upgrading my outside blog and wanted to change my header on Active Rain and my outside blog.  I had heard of Picnik as a great tool to use for uploading and editing photos but had never taken the time to really see how it worked till now.

It was so incredibly easy and I just had to share it with everyone who has not yet had the opportunity to customize either their Active Rain or outside blog headers.

Step 1 -  Go to Picnik and create an account.

Step 2 - Once you've created your account you need to upload the photo you want to use in your header.

Picnik - Upload Photo

Step 3 - Click on Upload Photo to find on your computer the photo you're going to choose.

Picture File

Step 4 - Once you upload the photo now it's time to get creative and you'll start by first clicking on the crop button.

Photo edit - crop

Step 5 - You'll then see a screen that should look like this.

crop screen

Step 6 - The photo must be resized to fit the recommended AR header size of 960 x 130.  If you are going to use this photo in your AR outside blog the dimensions must be 960 x 134.  Also make certain that there is a check in the Scale photo box when you make the dimension change.  When you done changing the dimensions and dragged the box to fit in the area you want to use, click OK.

Step 7 - Now you've got your banner finished, the choice is yours on whether to upload it into Active Rain or continue with a little more creativity.

Step 8 - Here's where you can have some fun with the editing feature of Picnik.

#1 - Click on Create.

#2 - Click on Text..

#3 - Type in your text.

#4 - Choose your font.

#5 - Pick your color.

#6 - Drag the text to fit anywhere on the photo.

You can add additional text in other parts of the header by following steps 2-6.  Once you're satisfied with all of your text, fonts and colors, click on the Save & Share button in the right hand corner.

Step 9 - Time to rename and save your new banner either to your desktop or computer.

Bruce - Thanks!  It should work.  I do a lot in picnik.  If you send bagels though, they should go to Donna.  I just reblogged her post.  I thought it was great information.

Melissa - Thanks so much for the reblog!  I love being able to share things I've learned with our members.  Your header looks just beautiful!
