Speaking Up about Home Staging

head_left_image

Changing the presentation is easy... when you hire the professionals!

The home I staged today had some amazing pieces of furniture in it.  Doing the consultation last week with the client he was a bit taken back when I advised that we should remove some furntiure from the upstairs landing... after all, it was handmade, imported from China, inlaid with mother of pearl and ivory.... Of course this style isn't exactly what we are used to seeing in Charleston, SC.

We did stop short of taking down the art pieces, primarily because there was nothing to replace them with and to remove the anchors would leave major patch work.  The homeowner lives out of state and this is their vacation home....

It is important when selling a home to realize that sometimes, just because something was expensive, or is valuable to you, does not mean it will appeal tot he target market - you know, those people who are interested in purchasing your home.  Unfortunately, often, when the buyers would appreciate the pieces this only means that they will spend more time looking at the fine pieces of art and forget all about the home itself....

Great transformation Melissa!  Too much for selling prior to your staging and as you say, the style is not exactly what one would expect in Charleston.  I hear you about the art.  When working with the client's belongings it is often necessary to make the pieces you have available work in the space - you did just that beautifully!

I love this line -- It is important when selling a home to realize that sometimes, just because something was expensive, or is valuable to you, does not mean it will appeal to the target market!

Seems I say that often!

Oh yes - couldn't agree more.  Looks much better without the heavy furniture.

I love the line about something being expensive.  I have had people say "do you know how much that costs?"  They think this justifies it being in the room.  No...sorry but ugly is ugly!

Love what you did.   Those large fans are probably something you could not take down for fear of the large holes left behind,  I am betting.
