Speaking Up about Home Staging

Taking a Closer Look at Staging....

We are in the process of renovating our training website, www.StagingAndRedesign.com with that comes a whole fresh new look at staging services.

I've been working on photos the last few days and I wanted to show you how sometimes photos can really change when you take a closer look...

This is a nice photo, but nothing that would ever really end up in my portfolio.  It's just not interesting enough.....

Taking a closer look adds a lot more interest....

Same house, looking into another room from the family room.  It wouldn't make the before & after cut most likely...

The cropped photos take a different, closer look.  It shows less of the home, but more of the staging....

Sometimes we just need to take a closer look at our photos to maximize our portfolio.  Staging is often all about the details.  Take a look at your portfolio and see if you need to take a closer look at some of it....

A Color A Day: Secondary Colors - Part 2 of our game...

This is much the same as the first part when we chose our favorite primary colors.  Now I would like you to tell me your favorite (of the ones listed) secondary color.  I'll make my list and report back the results just as before.  This time, if you played the first round, please also add whether you were originally Yellow, Blue or Red so we can have more fun later.....

As before, please pick the color you are most drawn to - where your eye can not help but go.... this may or may not be your favorite color.

Don't look at anyone else's answer until after you post yours!!  We don't want anyone else's answer to influence yours.

This information is based on the Dewey Color System created by Dewey Sadka.  With his intuitive people skills and motivational ability, he created a multi-patented system that is now the world's first scientifically valid, color-based personality test.

Why you should know about color:

When a person surrounds themselves with their preferred colors, they are in fact subconsciously encouraging their hopes and aspirations. Non-preferred colors irritatingly give them the courage to see what they have a tendency to avoid.

A Color A Day: Were you a RED?

I'm so impressed with the number of people who responded to my blog, A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game.....  With over 120 responses, it's clear that people LOVE color!!

This blog is for those who chose red.  In case you don't remember, it wasn't about this being your favorite color.  It was about being the color your eye was uncontrollably drawn to.  If you picked it because it was 'your favorite color' this may not apply to you.  Go back and look at the three primary colors and notice which one you are drawn to.....

This was the most chosen color of the three (most common among 'other' categories)....

Stagers who chose this color (please forgive me for any misspellings):  Heather Chotard, Fernando Rosado, Kathy Riggle, Julie Dana, Donna Schoby, Ronelle Schroeder Hill, Vicki Styons, Kathy Passarette, Lisa Sherman, Manna Vazzana and Robyn Guinn

Agents who chose this color:  Michele Reneau, Joanna Gerber, Cat Zwicker, Angelia Garcia, Kathryn Lansden, Vickie McCartney, Yvette Smith, Judi Morgan, Real Estate Pat, Kevin Wood, Debbie Malone, Tonia Mosteller, Kat Delong, Michele Eckart, Robin Gulledge, James Engel, Tammy Lankford, Anne Rains, Michelle DeRepintigny, Dawn Anderson, Melissa Pluta, Russ Ravany, Rosalinda Morgan, Randy DeLaMare and Judi Morgan.

Others Who Chose this color:  Lyvia, Beatrice Cooper, Lori Isaacson and Ruth Vogt.

Key Words: Practical, Resourceful, Direct

Power:  Use experience to improve things

Motivation: To better control your world

"You know exactly what you want.  Money, Power, and status give you a sense of security but ultimately you use them as a means of expression.  This is your primary goal.  You're not one to hoard your wealth.  On the contrary, you would give the shirt off your back for those you're concerned about.

You are ambitious, driven, confident, and outgoing.  Red is a demanding, controlling color.  It's also a practical color.  You don't want to remade the world in your own image, like the blues.  You just want to be in charge of fixing things.  You have little tolerance for inefficiencies.

Even though your expressive style can make you appear extravagant, you are conservative.  You learn what you need from past experiences.  You are more realistic than someone who likes blue, because you have less need for validation and have a stronger sense of your own worth."

A Color A Day: Were you a BLUE?

I'm so impressed with the number of people who responded to my blog, A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game.....  With over 120 responses, it's clear that people LOVE color!!

This blog is for those who chose blue.  In case you don't remember, it wasn't about this being your favorite color.  It was about being the color your eye was uncontrollably drawn to.  If you picked it because it was 'your favorite color' this may not apply to you.  Go back and look at the three primary colors and notice which one you are drawn to.....

This was the second most common choice (largest ratio of stagers):

Stagers who chose this color (please forgive me for any misspellings):  Me! Melissa Marro, David Moon, Connie Tebyani, Elaine Manes, Emma Vargas, Kimo Stowell, Wanda Richards, Michelle Hess and Debbie Wheeler

Agents who chose this color:  Betina Foreman, Susan Milner, Carolyn Gjerde, Pamela Williamson, Charles Buell, Judy Peterson, Kristina Pratt, Diane Bell, Diane McDermott, Kathleen Lunsford, Crystal Allen, Maureen McCabe, Terrylynn Fisher, Castellum, Sherry Sim, Carla Freund, Jeff/Laura Miller, Sheree Wilkerson and Leah Leighton

Others who chose blue: Laura Cerrano and Sue White

So.... What does your choice of BLUE say about you?

Key Words: Planner, Initiator, Visionary

Power:  Ability to visualize the future

Motivation: to justify your existence

"You are a dreamer and a visionary - wistful, imaginative, and eccentric.  You're preoccupied with the future.  Your dreams give you the mental discipline to concentrate and stay on track.  You need to justify your life by making a positive impact on the world, even those you don't know.

Thinking about the future energizes you.  Putting forth your ideas and reshaping the world are key to your happiness.  You are seeking a more cohesive world.  Making sure that everyone is on the same page is a major concern.  You need agreement to initiate positive change.

You require recognition.  The most idealistic of all the colors, you are often distracted by your own schemes.  Mood swings have you feeling depressed one day and euphoric the next.  Too much validation from others can make you conceited.  Too little can make you depressed."

A Color A Day: Were you a YELLOW?

I'm so impressed with the number of people who responded to my blog, A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game.....  With over 120 responses, it's clear that people LOVE color!!

This blog is for those who chose yellow.  In case you don't remember, it wasn't about this being your favorite color.  It was about being the color your eye was uncontrollably drawn to.  If you picked it because it was 'your favorite color' this may not apply to you.  Go back and look at the three primary colors and notice which one you are drawn to.....

This was the least chosen color of the three....

Stagers who chose this color (please forgive any misspellings, my handwriting is not great!):  Sheridan Corrie, Kate Hart, Michelle Pimentel, and Carole Provenzale

Agents who chose this color:  Danielle, Patty Carroll, Sandy Fenton, Charles Stallions, Barbara Morley, Marcia Kramarz, Sandy Gleason, Paula Ryan, Janet Guilbault, Rita Burke, Roland Woodworth, Regina Butcher and Deborah Ryman

So.... What does your choice of YELLOW say about you?

Key Words:  Realistic, Diplomatic, Giving

Power:  Wisdom to know what is needed

Motivation: Personal Growth

"Finding common ground is the game you play best.  You calm troubled situations, bridge differences.  Your awareness of others' perspecitives allows you to express contrary, unpopular feelings without offending anyone.  By keeping people listening, you allow solutions and possibilities to unfold.

In one on one situations you manage to see and understand the other person's point of view.  You accept what others need without imposing your own will or agenda.  You accept people for who they are.  You have a knack for keeping the conversation flowing and know precisely where to focus your energy.  In groups you keep to yourself; unlike the blues, you keep your energy.

Your a team player and enjoy the supportive role, for example, the person behind the president.  You are flexible.  Since you are not a control freak or power hungry, you're able to focus on the task at hand.  You deal with the present and don't dwell on the past or obsessively plan for the future.  You tend to be spiritual and life supporting."

Who is going to the IRIS Convention in two weeks?

I am so excited about going to the IRIS National Convention in two weeks!!  I have heard from some of you who are going, and others I'm still wondering about.  I think one of the best things about this event will be getting to meet some of my AR buddies!

Non IRIS members are allowed to go this year, so if you are looking for a national stager/redesign convention, why not go to this one?  There is still time to register!  The conference dates are October 8-10, but my team will be there from the 6-11th!  Maybe we should take one of those nights and have a big AR party!

If you are planning on going, post your name below and maybe we can get something together so we can all get together!  Maybe it will also encourage other AR members to come also.... who doesn't love a party?

A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game.....

Since I've started my journey into color I wanted to share some of it with you.  Of course I'm not going to give it all away, I want you to want to know more, but I'm going to attempt (subject to my crazy schedule) to post some information about a color every day for the next 12 days or so - enough that you'll be amazed at its accuracy and be dying to know more!  Today we are going to start off with the personality profile....

 yellow     blue       red

Start by choosing which color you MOST prefer (which one your eye can't seem to help but be drawn to).

You'll be amazed at what I can tell you about yourself just by answering this simple question.  Tomorrow I'll begin revealing the profiles.  Post your answer in the comments and I'll include your name (unless you ask me not to) with the profiles tomorrow.  This is a fun exercise to teach us all about each other...

Don't look at anyone else's answer until after you post yours!!  We don't want anyone else's answer to influence yours.

My Journey into Color - Who wants to come along?

I've been out of town a good part of this week, learning about color.  Much of it I have known for a while.  I have always made it a point to enhance my knowledge on the industry.  This week, however I went for Dewey Color Certification to become a Dewey Color Instructor!

This means that for those of you in the south (or elsewhere if you really want to travel) I will be able to enhance your business skills by offering both the 1 day Coordinator course and the two day Color Consultant course!

I look forward to continuing my color journey with many of you here in the rain!

Classes begin in January and will be offered every month here in Summerville (a burb of Charleston), SC.  If you would like to have classes offered in your area, email me privately and we'll see what we can do!  (particularly for those in the Jacksonville or Tampa areas)

SCRealtor Trade Show - Incredible Success - Thank you SC Realtors!

This week Bevin Googer, Susan Hardin and David Moon represented our company at the SC Realtor Trade Show.  Unfortunately I could not attend as I was at a Dewey Color Class working on my Instructor Status.  (Yeah! Who wants to learn some color?)  The feedback from the team was that it was a huge success!!

(David was taking the photo & apparently didn't have one taken of him..... slapping him on the wrist for that!)

Many agents who we currently work with stopped by to tell us what a great job we have been doing for them.  Many new agents were impressed with our stats foam board and took marketing information.  Several brokers asked about more information on our classes, etc, including from Greenville (Marci, you will be very busy soon I suspect!).  We even had clients (in the real estate industry) whose homes we had bids on stop by and tell the team how much they look forward to working with us on their projects!!  How great is that?

I wanted to take a moment to thank my whole team who worked very hard on this project to make it such a success and also thank all the industry professionals who stopped by and ask questions, let us know how we were doing, and provide valuable feedback about the industry.  We always appreciate your support!!
